Mid-Origins Update

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Just wanted to post an update about the changes made over the last couple of days. I’ve been keeping up on Bug Reports and plugging away at Survivors’ quest stuff. Puyo’s here, cranking out good arts. Pretty productive week for how little I’ve been at the house.

Couple fixes to report:

  • Fixed a bug that was overwriting your hand in combat with bad data. Huge thanks to Man Mobile and Starwed for helping figure this one out.
  • There’s now a more obvious, but hopefully not too obtrusive, link to donate. Good suggestion, The Kitchen Sink.
  • Dr. Thomas should now be a bit more coherent when talking about the Hammer. Thanks for the note Zeladoni.
  • Gaining control in PvP no longer gives you a message talking about how you’re going to get control eventually. Good catch, the Kitchen Sink.
  • Also thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal, Thrillhouse, Wyrd, and Mag for typokilling.

Cheers!

Updates

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Handful of updates, but a quick note before we get to those.

I’m heading to Origins for a large part of the week (Wednesday through Sunday) and doing preliminary work on the Survivors Quest until and through then. So my normal speed of responding to bug reports and posting updates may slow a little bit.

  • The $end in award.php errors should hopefully be less common now. I’ve split it up into a whole range of different files, which should make updating it a bit more seemless.
  • Return to Chat properly returns you to chat and the last used chat channel is set to your default when you return. Thanks Olaf and Mag for helping sort this out.
  • TZR Chipdesks should now function properly as chipdecks. Thanks for the bug report, starspiritgeno.
  • There is now a /whois feature in chat by name or player id. Thanks to Man Mobile for the suggestion.
  • I finally put up the About the Devs page. Thanks to Wyrd for reminding me.
  • Also thanks to Mag, Shademaster00, and RazielSonOfKain for reporting some typos

Cheers!

Combat Updates

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

The big update today is a revamp of how enemies are treated, both NPC enemies and other players in gang warfare. Basically, the game now keeps track of various special traits about each enemy, such as whether they’re a drone and whether they’re wearing a gas mask.

This nerfs some Techniques and buffs others, but is mostly there so things make more sense. No longer will Helicopter Drones have coughing fits!

This was a long standing request, so lots of folks have asked for it. Give yourselves a pat on the back :)

Other Changes:

  • Internet Explorer users should be able to search in the Mall properly now across the board. Thanks to Happy Yeti for reporting this!
  • You can now talk to your old friend Mikhail if you do to the Deli without reading his note, if you so desire. Good sugestion, Argeth.
  • You can now talk to Dr. Amundsen about encryption even after you’ve freed Hel, although the text here will change with the Survivor’s quest. Good catch, Happy Yeti.
  • Fixed a weird crafting error at zero Energy. Thanks, Mag.
  • Also thanks to LlamaMan, Caradal, and Man Mobile for some typo catching :)

Cheers!

Gang Log Overhaul

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

There’s been a lot of feedback about how the Gang Log could provide better information since it’s inception. I went ahead and implemented a bunch of them today. Thanks to Man Mobile, Jick, The Kitchen Sink, PaidPiedPiperPal, and everyone else for their feedback.

  • The logs are now filterable. This isn’t 100% yet, because posts older than about noon today aren’t categorized (they’ll all appear under Gang Warfare).
  • Donations to the Gang Stash are now visible in the log. This, coincidently, is why the ‘Stash’ isn’t checked by default in the filter, it’ll probably get spammy.
  • The logs are now kept for 72 rather than 24 hours.
  • For now it’ll remember the chosen filter for the length of your session, but it’ll probably store it permanently once I get account options in.
  • Buying hideout upgrades and unlocking hideout upgrades are now both visible in the log.

Some other updates:

  • Hawk will no longer offer to set your dead friends free. He’s not a great guy, but he’s not that mean. Thanks Man Mobile and PaidPiedPiperPal for helping me sort out what was going on here.
  • Similarly, the watch-coveting Third Eye won’t talk about going to guard a dead Dr. Amundsen anymore. Good catch, RazielSonOfKain.
  • The repeated function errors last night are resolved. Thanks thrillhouse!
  • The ‘Rest Here’ link in the Hideout page will now always rest in the Hideout, even if it has to take you out of your current area. It will warn you first and only take you out if needed (Ghost Ship and Below the Charnel House, specifically). Good suggestion, The Kitchen Sink.

Cheers!

Updates!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

So not sure who put what in my Kashi this morning, but I’m largely caught up on bugs and feature suggestions in addition to pushing the Mall today.

  • You can now see your total bonuses by clicking a link from your character page (click your name in the left-hand pane, click ‘See All Bonuses’). These include equipment, buffs, and all but the weirdest skills. Thanks for the suggestion, Al.
  • The security guards’ response to you finishing the ‘Trouble on the Docks’ quest for them has been tweaked. This one was kind of a group effort over at the forums. Good feedback everyone!
  • OmniTech Trauma Bandages are now a tad more interesting, thanks to Man Mobile and DanBob.
  • If your hideout’s smuggler has been used for the day, it now appears greyed out and gives a little feedback rather than just vanishing like ninja. Thanks Jick!
  • Gang leaders can now whitelist members from the Leadership screen. Thanks for the suggestion, The Kitchen Sink.
  • For players with access to their gang’s stash, the donation screen and the stash screen link back and forth now. Another good suggestion from The Kitchen Sink.
  • Finishing off your last opponent the same round you fall in battle should now give a bit of explanatory text. Good suggestion, Tyren.
  • A lot of early quest text has been clarified. Thank you for helping shore these up, DanBob.
  • The Techniques page has gotten another coat of glossy paint, including better breaks between sections. Shiny! Thanks for the feedback, the Kitchen Sink.
  • ‘The Net’ is now loading in the correct pane. There’s some subtle irony here I’m missing. Thanks for the bug report, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • The side pane shouldn’t be erroring out loading certain item descriptions anymore. Good find, Canadaman!
  • Also, special thanks to Mag, Man Mobile, and Canadaman for catching some of my typose.

Have a good night everyone.

Cheers!

Post Update Cleanup

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

As you’d imagine, we’ve got a good batch of fixes from the Gang Warfare update. There were actually fewer than I was expecting, which is nice.

Here’s the list:

  • Beancounters should now be labeled consistently across screens rather than being “Stash” in some places and “Beancounters” others. Thanks, Mag, for pointing this one out.
  • Your currently selected Avatar is now displayed first (with explanation). Special order for PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Old NPC messages (from contacts) are now cleared when you Beta Reset. Thanks for the suggestion, LlamaMan.
  • Brutality was still irritatingly common. That should be fixed now. If it went to far in the opposite directly, we’ll tweak more. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for the note.
  • The smuggling section in the ‘Gang Stash’ tab now displays the amount you have spent on smugglers, regardless of whether you have any profits to give them. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Adding profits to your smuggler doesn’t wait for you to reload the page to correctly display profits. Good catch, The Kitchen Sink.
  • Fixed a bug right at release where installing a smuggler required you have a smuggler. <_< >_> Thanks, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Also had a heaping helping of typos reported by Argeth, Man Mobile, PaidPiedPiperPal, and The Kitchen Sink.

Thanks everybody!

Cheers!

Gang Warfare Revamp

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

The big Gang Warfare revamp went in today. Lots of neat stuff, let’s see what I can remember off the top of my head.

  • There’s a Hideout link in the top pane now, where appropriate. Among other things, several new gang enhancements are manually used from that screen.
  • There are new gang enhancements. Two will pop out right away, with others (five more) unlockable through various means.
  • There are a bunch of new Techniques. Not all of these will stay Gang-only, but there are a whole slew of them, including some popular demand ones and some that think are awesome.
  • Vigilante has grown into what I was originally picturing. There are some more options now that I’m pretty excited about.
  • There are new crafting components for every craft. I didn’t really plan it that way, but there are a lot of crafting components.
  • An entirely new type of consumable has hit the streets, courtesy of the Third Eye. These won’t stay gang-only forever, but I think they’re pretty interesting either way.
  • There’s a bit of a side quest, although the eventual reward isn’t a Skill.
  • There’s also a new Skill, giving a new option to an old side quest, but it’s so hidden it’s almost an Easter Egg.
  • There’s now another market for your old coins, if you’re so inclined.
  • The game now tracks lifetime gang warfare records. They’re displayed in parentheses behind the current number where appropriate. Thanks to Pyren for the suggestion.
  • Medicine Cabinets indicate when they’ve been raided in both the Gang and Hideout screens. Thanks for the suggestion Magnifico.
  • You should receive additional feedback when your Gang Warfare attempts move your gang to Total Control or Iron Grip. Good suggestion, The Kitchen Sink!
  • Thanks to Man Mobile and Justin for reporting issues I caused while getting the code ready for these upgrades.

I’m probably missing stuff, honestly. There’s a whole lot going on. There’s even a new paper mache ‘recipe’ for crying out loud. It’s like a madhouse in there.

With an upgrade like this, especially in the PvP system, I expect for some problems to slip through. So please keep your bug reporting ready to go.

Cheers!

Minor Updates and Fixes

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Just wanted to give a quick rundown of the updates over the last few days. Life was kind of busy over the weekend, but really got to crank some stuff out today.

The biggest change on my side that won’t affect people directly is another layer of potential customization with choices. Basically, it’ll be really streamlined for me to add options that only appear sometimes. Which, as you can imagine, allows for some cool stuff. Special thanks to Cryptodynamic and Man Mobile for helping work out some of the initial bugs with the change.

  • Players with a space in their user names should now be able to use the password reset form. Thanks for the bug report, Sir Cheddar.
  • The notification that you posted a gang message now won’t imply you put slashes everywhere. Thanks The Kitchen Sink.
  • Valera’s been poking around and helped me resolve some issues with trying to equip unequipple items and talk to contacts you don’t know. Thanks Valera!
  • Your credits listing on the left will now automatically update when you buy something from a store. Thanks for the note, RBK!
  • There is now a Rest More option at the bottom of the rest page. Thanks for the suggestion, Xkiv!
  • The chess book now only costs 1 Energy (down from 2).
  • Getting dunked in sewage now has a bit more effect than before.
  • And thanks for a bunch of typos fixes from The Kitchen Sink, PaidPiedPiperPal, Metro, and Lester.

That’s it for now. The Gang Warfare updates are coming along nicely. The main batch of content is done, but I still need to do some coding for the new hideout upgrades and new Techniques.

Cheers!

Today’s Updates

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Have a nice crop of updates this morning.

  • First off, I added a ‘hint’ for what Techniques can advance a chain (thanks for the suggestion Nytmare). If you’re not seeing them, you’ll probably need to clear your cache. I’m curious what people’s thoughts are on this: good learning tool, nice reminder, confusing, too intrusive?
  • The header pane will now autorefresh every five minutes or so (checking for new messages). Thanks to Mag for the suggestion here.
  • Gang hideouts will no longer help you in the Ghost Ship or Beneath the Charnel House. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • I changed the method of getting the Brutality Technique slightly. You should see less of them and have more control over how many you see. The Kitchen Sink kicked this off, but blame me if you don’t like the implementation :)
  • The ghost ship should now lock properly after you finish the quest. Thanks Mag.
  • I added information about targeting to the Info page, which was sorely lacking. Anything else that seems like it should go in there, drop me a line. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for the note here.
  • And a heaping helping of typo fixes courtesy of Man Mobile, Metro, Prestige, Mag, and Argeth.

Thanks everybody! I’m going to hide in a hole and bang out some PvP changes. Any feedback on the question mark ‘hints’ (or anything else, for that matter) is appreciated.

Cheers!

And Bug Fixes

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Also have a bunch of bug fixes over the last few days. Let’s go straight to the list:

  • Corrected a bug allowing massive over-donation to the gang stash. Thanks to Metro and Al for reporting this.
  • Finessed some the second chess opponent in terms of verbiage and rewards. Thanks Argeth and The Kitchen Sink.
  • You can no longer include negative numbers of a Technique in your deck. Thanks to Metro for hammering these out.
  • In The Jungle is no longer a quest item to keep it in line with the books like Chess for Beginners and Quantum Mechanics. Thanks for the suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Noncombats that damage you to the point you need to rest will now give better feedback. Thanks to Metro on this one.
  • Also, lots of other typos corrected thanks to Mag, Man Mobile, A Naked Jew, Bete Noire, and the ongoing efforts of Metro.

Cheers!
