Messages Update

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Due to popular demand (and the upcoming Mall), read unsaved messages will now autoclear themselves if left for long enough.

There are two timeframes for this:

  • 48 hours for system messages and messages from NPCs
  • 30 days for messages from other players (including me, even though I’m systemy)

You can completely avoid either of these by marking the message as saved. I’ll be starting this in a day or two, so you have a bit of warning.

Cheers!

Gang Interface Updates

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Two neat new features in the gang interface today.

Gang Log: There’s a gang log now, viewable by all members. It holds data for 24 hours and includes PvP, spending Profits, and ordering from smugglers. If there’s anything else you’d like included, I can add more, just didn’t want to clutter it up at first.

You should see the last 24 hours of data collected already, because I’m a ninja like that. Thanks to Jick and The Kitchen Sink for the suggestions that fused to form this.

Multi-Sell: You can now sell multiple shipments at once and it provides what I think is pretty good feedback about what’s going on. Thanks again to Jick for the suggestion here. Someone else suggested this too (maybe the Kitchen Sink again), but I’ve lost track because I’m a dork.

Multicrafting!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

By popular demand, multicrafting of recipes is now in.

  • Enter a number in the handy field to perform the recipe that many times or bust.
  • Enter a * to perform the recipe as many times as possible.
  • Enter a ? to tell you how many times * would perform the recipe, if you’re curious. This won’t cost energy or items, but will tell you if you don’t have enough energy or items to perform the recipe.

Thanks to everyone who suggested this on the forum thread and elsewhere. Special thanks to Kingdom of Loathing for the ‘*’ and ‘?’ standard.

If you run into any problems with multicrafting feel free to drop me a bug report or in-game message.

Cheers!

Today’s Updates

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Have a nice crop of updates this morning.

  • First off, I added a ‘hint’ for what Techniques can advance a chain (thanks for the suggestion Nytmare). If you’re not seeing them, you’ll probably need to clear your cache. I’m curious what people’s thoughts are on this: good learning tool, nice reminder, confusing, too intrusive?
  • The header pane will now autorefresh every five minutes or so (checking for new messages). Thanks to Mag for the suggestion here.
  • Gang hideouts will no longer help you in the Ghost Ship or Beneath the Charnel House. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • I changed the method of getting the Brutality Technique slightly. You should see less of them and have more control over how many you see. The Kitchen Sink kicked this off, but blame me if you don’t like the implementation :)
  • The ghost ship should now lock properly after you finish the quest. Thanks Mag.
  • I added information about targeting to the Info page, which was sorely lacking. Anything else that seems like it should go in there, drop me a line. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for the note here.
  • And a heaping helping of typo fixes courtesy of Man Mobile, Metro, Prestige, Mag, and Argeth.

Thanks everybody! I’m going to hide in a hole and bang out some PvP changes. Any feedback on the question mark ‘hints’ (or anything else, for that matter) is appreciated.

Cheers!

Scripting Updates

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Did a whole bunch of scripting and usability changes today.

  • First off, though, a bug fix. An encounter from the new sidequest had wandered off, showing up in the Slags instead. Thanks to Xkiv for the bug report. Anyone who received the skill from this encounter who wants to try out the new sidequest before their next reset, drop me a line, I can roll that back.
  • Multi-use (including Tear Multi and Sell Multi) are now inline options. Just type in the number and click the button (or hit enter, assuming the scripting works for everyone). Thanks to Metro for the suggestion.
  • On a related note, stolen crates can now be multi-used. You won’t get the blow by blow descriptions, but it’ll save a lot of clicks if you’ve been saving them up. Good suggestion from Twitch here.
  • The reset button in the combat screen shouldn’t force a page reload now, just clear out your chain. Thanks Xkiv for pointing out this one.
  • At the bottom of the techniques page, it’ll now give a total number of Techniques in that deck. Thanks to Yubi Shines for the suggestion.
  • And we’ve got some typos from Metro. Thanks Metro!

Forgot Username/Password and more

Monday, April 27th, 2009

The biggest update today is the “Forgot Something?” link in the username/password box. Entering your email address there will send you an email containing your character’s name and a link to choose a new password. If you just forgot your username but know the password, it’ll let you log back in with your existing password.

Also, items are now labeled with their requirements for Body, Energy, and Hunger. Thanks to Valliant for the suggestion.

Strange Ore should now only appear once while you’re on the quest. Thank you, Prestige, for the bug report.

The Techniques page will no longer spill out a bunch of errors if you go there shortly after login. Cheers to PaidPiedPiperPal for noticing this one before it go too irritating.

Also, thanks to Argeth, ACM, and A Naked Jew for typo reports.

Cheers!

Taking Requests!

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Implimented a whole slew of player suggestions today, including a bunch from the Suggestion Thread on the Forums. Here’s the list of changes:

  • The inventory now has two columns. If this gives anyone problems, be sure to send me a message. Thanks to Nytmare for the suggestion and to ACM for pointing out when I broke inventory trying to get this working.
  • If you’re fighting multiple targets, your current target will say “(Targeted)” when you mouseover their portrait. You may need to clear your cache to see this change. Thanks to MoreUmlaut for the suggestion here.
  • The skill Ghoultouched got a power boost. It now scales as you go through the game. Thanks to Lord Finisher for pointing out it wasn’t really up to snuff.
  • When you go into the Techniques screen for the first time after receiving more Techniques, those Techniques will be bolded. Good suggestion, Nytmare!
  • Larry will now clarify his somewhat cryptic comment about Purification, if you so desire. Argeth pointed out this opportunity.
  • PaidPiedPiperPal suggested so many things they get their own section: Old Pill Bottles have a few new options, you can know bind defeated Twisted Hounds, the containment suit will protect you even falling in Lake Metroplex, Andrea will help you even if you go unconscious in her fight (but not if you run), and fortune cookies now give, ya know, fortunes. Extra thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal for all the good suggestions!
  • Also cleared up a bunch of typos thanks to Argeth, The Kitchen Sink, Nosside, Metro, Mag, A Naked Jew, and ACM. Thanks everyone!

Keep an eye here and on the forum over the next couple days, because I’m going to be looking for input on features and what order people want stuff tackled.

Cheers!

Fishing and Sushi

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Dropped in two new skills, a new crafting type, a bit of Chemistry, and finally finished fishing (which has been hanging out there half done since the Docks quest). In related news, the University Bookstore has a new offering.

Electronics Revamp

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I just finished a retool of the Electronics system. You will now remember recipes from upgrades as you do with Chemistry experiments. Thanks to Argeth and Twitch for the suggestion.

There is one slightly weird thing about the way this works with Electronics. There will often (and more so when Hacking goes in) be multiple paths to the same final upgrade result. As such, the final results take the basic components (non-electronics items and circuits) rather than the intermediate steps. Some also require more than one Energy (so it matches up with the cost upgrading manually).

The system doesn’t know what recipes you had struck upon previously, so everyone will start out blank. The list should populate as you upgrade items from now forward.

Cheers!

Profiles!

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

You can now view other players’ profiles through a link at the bottom of your character sheet. As you can imagine, this is one of the preliminaries for PvP, so you can ‘know thy enemy.’ And, perhaps more importantly, know thy friends.

In a related note, you can now write a description for your character (visible in the profile) by clicking on the creatively named ‘Description’ link on your character sheet. Thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal for the suggestion.

Two other updates:

  • There is now a ‘Reply’ button for messages. Thanks again to PaidPiedPiperPal on this one.
  • David will now display appropriate text after you save him. Thanks to Argeth for the bug report and grats on actually saving David!

Cheers!
