Zack’s House of Coins

Monday, September 14th, 2009

It’s that time again! Zack has a new item available at the cost of two unearthly coins.

Like the first two coin item (the Mysterious Puzzle Box), this one has a lot of content. Unlike the box, it’s a bit more sprawling, tying in to the crafting system in a bunch of more and less subtle ways. Zack, as always, has some hints on where to start.

There is also a thread on the forum for discussion and a celebratory hint about the puzzle box.

Cheers!

Zack’s House of Coins

Monday, June 8th, 2009

The first donation item is now up! Check out Zack at Mikhail’s in Southside for some details.

It has a lot going on, more than many donation items probably will. It lets you interact with attributes in a couple of new ways, has several forms, and can be upgraded as you learn its secrets. Using it works sort of outside the normal Energy structure, so you can play with it without worrying about running all your Energy out.

I think it’s pretty cool, but I’m new at this whole “donation item” thing, so we’ll see how it turns out together.

This item will rotate out eventually, but it probably won’t be for quite a while. I’ll give quite a bit of notice before that happens.

As a side note, the item is only tradable in one form. You can change it back and forth from that form, so it’s not soul bound or anything, it’ll just work better if there aren’t four versions of the item in the Mall.

On a people are awesome note: unearthly coins were being duplicated due to a bug briefly today and both people who the bug affected reported it. Three cheers for ThrillHouse and PaidPiedPiperPal. Hip hip huzzah!

Cheers!

Good News and Bad News

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So, the good news is that I’m going to have a lot more time to work on Metroplexity. The bad news, as you can probably guess, is that it’s because I got laid off. No worries about the server or anything for now, I’ll give an update if that situation changes.

Other than that, here are the updates for today:

  • Resolved a bug that was preventing folks from completing the ‘Ship of the Damned’ Quest. Huge thanks to Mag for helping out with this one.
  • You can now attack the man reluctantly selling bits of his containment suit. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for reporting this one.
  • Problems on the Docks won’t linger empty in your quest log. Thank you, Dannzy for pointing this out.
  • The crafting screens all now mention that they cost Energy. Thanks to Valliant for helping avoid another irritating surprise for new players.
  • In the new multi-use interface, 0 actually means 0. Thank you for pointing this out, Mr. Green.
  • Thanks to The Kitchen Sink, Mag, PaidPiedPiperPal, A Naked Jew, and Metro for pointing out typos and some unclear wordings.

And extra thanks to everyone for reporting bugs, making suggestions, proofreading, participating in beta resets, fighting in gang warfare, and just generally enjoying the game. Always a pleasure.

Cheers!

State of the Game (April 27th, 2009)

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I haven’t done one of these for about three months, so figured I should outline roughly where things are headed.

First off, we’ve grown into a pretty healthy user base and people seem to be enjoying themselves, which is definitely the important part. The server hasn’t started slowing down, that I’m aware of, or costing an arm and a leg. And we topped over 1000 encounters and 500 items in the database recently, which makes me smile.

Have three short term things that I’d like to clear up before the Survivor’s Quest:

  • Adding the rudiments of in-game networking, including interacting with the Auction House/Mall. This means item trading and starting to apply requirements on newer items.
  • Add another layer of PvP rewards. This means more vigilante encounters, more uses for old coins, and more hideout options mostly.
  • A revamp of the University Quest. Basically, the ganger route is going to have some more content added to it so it’s more equal in length to the normal route. Also, cash rewards from selling Eclipse will be scaled back \to be more in line with the street price of Eclipse for (a couple credits a tablet).

The Survivors quest is a the next leg in the main quest line. It’s a chance to really dig into the existing characters and areas, I’m looking forward to it.

When the Survivors quest goes in, I’m going to be handing out the first wave of Beta Reset awards, then changing the rules a bit (it’ll be a surprise). That’s a change from what I said earlier, but you should still have quite a bit of time to speed run in the current environment if you’d like.

After the Survivors quest I’m going to go through another batch of sidequests, small content improvements, and interface stuff like I’m doing right now. This is where the Asylum gets reopened post Dr. Amundsen.

Once we get that nice polish again, the OldTown quest is next. Might change the rules on the Beta Reset contest again, might not, but I’m thinking I’ll hand out another batch of prizes after each main quest line chunk.

Cheers!

Update Spree!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

First off, hello to everyone from Kingdom of Loathing! Nice to see all the new faces. If you run into any bugs, even seemingly trivial stuff, please send me a message or bug report.

I believe I’m caught up on all the messages and bug reports for now, so if I missed anything, feel free to resend it. I am actually still in the process of moving, but I’m supposed to be settled with internet access by Friday.

Here is a quick rundown of the bug reports that we’ve caught up with:

  • Thanks to Man Mobile and Squarebob Fancy Pants for reporting problems with registering accounts containing a space. That should now work properly.
  • Paid Pied Piper Pal managed to find (but not fall victim too) a bug that’d kill off Lo for no good reason. He’s also helped test out a lot of the weirdness with a dying man in the Slags.
  • Everyone’s favorite Third Eye Lieutenant should respond to questions about the Lost Son in more situations. Thanks to Argeth for this one.
  • Thanks to Jick for pointing out some problems in the quest log when selling the Squatter King’s crate of medicine.
  • Expanded the explination of what’s going on when you open a crate of Eclipse. Thanks to Audesapere for pointing out the vagueness.
  • Finally fixed the border around the map images (particularly between the two on the Docks) in Firefox. Thanks to Nytmare for the nudge on this one.
  • Also cleared up a nice batch of typos from Argeth, Rikitikitavi, A Naked Jew, and Llamaman.

Cheers!

Status Update

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Just wanted to give a quick status update. The good news is that the next sidequest is over half done, the bad news is that I’m about to move and will be only intermittently available for a week or so.

I’ll try to keep up with bug reports while I’m out, which hasn’t been a problem before. Just wanted to give a head’s up about the new content.

Preparing for the move is why I was out for a week and why updates have been a bit slow. Once I’m done moving and things have calmed down, I should be back to my normal update schedule.

Cheers!

Out of Town

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

For the next week, I’m going to be out of town (looking for apartments in preparation for moving). I’ll try to keep up on Bug Reports and messages, but apologies in advance if I fall behind.

Cheers!

Forums!

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

I’ve gotten a couple requests to activate the forums on the wiki. They should be up and running now.

Direct link should be: http://wiki.metroplexity.com/forum:start

Former Wiki Outage

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Update: It’s up and running again.

Wikidot, which hosts our wiki, is down right now. I’ll post updates here if I receive any, but most likely, we won’t hear anything until it comes back up.

The game server doesn’t have any connection to the wiki and is humming along just fine.

Cheers!

State of the Game (January 15th)

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Just wanted to give everyone an update about where the game is and where it’s going, since it’s been a while.

What I’m up to:

  • Getting Gang Warfare (PvP) in is my first priority. It’s basically all in except half the rewards, but I’d obviously like to get those in. I’ll put out a full post explaining it when it goes in, because there’s a fair bit too it.
  • Next up is a pair of side quests. One is the scavenging quest I’ve mentioned before as a way of turning unneeded equipment into crafting ingredients and the other is a larger side quest on the order of the Ghoul quest.
  • Then we get the Survivors Quest. It’s the next step in the main quest after the Slags and branches pretty notably based on who, well, made it out alive from the University quest. People dying isn’t bad, I’ll note, just different. Hacking will get slipped in here along certain branches.
  • There’ll probably be some more side quests here, including the follow-up in the buried asylum.
  • After that, the Old Town quest will be coming in, which carries the choices from the Survivors Quest forward. Cybernetics will probably slot in during this.

There will be some more crafting sprinkling in there as well. On the long front, the chat pane will start doing something with Gang Warfare and will be slowly expanded into actual chat functions as needs demand it.

Cheers!
