Abominable Christmas Content

Along with a layer of freshly fallen snow (not pictured), Christmas celebrations have begun full blast.

The University’s Abominable Snowman contest has kicked off again with a little twist here and there. Don’t expect too many surprises, just plenty of good, clean, abominable fun on the Quad (assuming you’ve cleared out those bothersome protesters).

Rumor has it that Christmas trees are hung up on the Docks again. There might be some way to free them from their bonds, but I’d probably get ahold of a tree one way or another before Christmas.

On today’s special holiday episode of the devblog, we have:

  • We’ve added a personal touch to the Abominable Snowman leaderboard, revealing where you stand. Thanks for the suggestion, Man Mobile, and some bug finding from Mag.
  • Horned Snowmen will no longer use their ultimate “Turn your weapon into a Brain Staples Single” attack. Thanks for the suggestion, Mag and Deathknight.
  • Fixed up some icicle errors. Thanks for the bug report, Valera.
  • You now need to be in the Slags to give Hel her Christmas gift of a containment suit. Thanks for pointing this out Pyren and Vholes.
  • Larry’s extra-special gift is likewise better given in person. Good suggestion from a ways back, thanks to Mr. Green.
  • Thanks for some very festive typo fixes from Mag, Valera, Argeth, and Al.
  • Also, the Flying Eyes got an early Christmas present from yours truly.

I’m going to be out of town until New Years, so chances of updates are fairly minimal. If something needs my attention, I will still be watching bug reports.


New Techniques

Very small update today. There are two new Techniques in: Crushing Punch and the return of Rain of Bullets as an area of effect attack.

The real meat of PvP is done, but there’s lots of little stuff left. Its possible I might have it done before I skip town on the 26th, but no promises.

Update Chain!

Made a whole bunch of minor updates today, detailed below:

  • The Inventory and Crafting screens now remember which sub-screen you were in until you log off.
  • Crafting also keeps focus on the recipes and items you used last. This should make experimenting and the occasional multi-recipe bonanza a little easier.
  • The PHP warnings in the Inventory should be gone for good.
  • When you’re logged off, the game should now try to break out of frames, although this won’t necessarily work 100%.
  • Gang Enforcers in the Fang hideout were using bugged to use some overly long (and nonsensical) chains of attacks. This should be fixed and, among other things, bring them closer to their intended difficulty.
  • Added placeholder text for Lo, David, and Dr. Amundsen after completion of the Slags quest.
  • There’s a temporary leaderboard of sorts in The Quad for the holiday event. It’ll be taken down when extra-special presents are given out (25th or so).

It’s holiday time. Snow and sleighbells and all that. I have dropped in a bit of holiday content if you’d like to play around with it.

  • Metroplex University is having its annual Abominable Snowman competition, assuming you’ve cleared out the rioters. It’s been going on for a while, but this is the first year since Eclipse started circling around campus.
  • Some thoughtful folks are handing out Christmas Trees in Southside park. And, after all, how do you get presents without a tree?

Oh, and participants in the former might just find something extra special under their tree.


Two new features! Thanksgiving! Awesome!

First off, Happy Thanksgiving! Everyone can find some special Thanksgiving themed treats in their mailbox. Enjoy!

I also added two new major features in preparation for the Slags quest. They’re just frameworks now, but please hammer at them, give feedback, and see if you can shake out any bugs.

  • There are now furnishing items which can be placed in your house. There are two of these as of right now. The TV is implemented now and the Chemistry Kit… well, you’ll see in a sec.
  • Crafting is also in. For the moment there are only a few Chemistry recipes, but these include a powerful caffeine and a new Technique, so it might be worth your while. Experimentation isn’t in yet, but is the next step.

Like I said, feedback and weird bugs welcome. Both housing and crafting will be expanded dramatically, but these are the first tentative Beta feelers.
