Weekend Updates

First off a couple of updates I mentioned on yesterday’s podcast:

  • You should now be able to make it through the abandoned buildings in the Slags Quest without combat. You’ll notice I didn’t say it was easy or straightforward. Thanks for reminding me about this, Wyrd!
  • Tweaked the difficulty of a few fights in the revamped Sewer Hideout to more closely match their old versions. Thanks for the feedback, TeKRunneR.
  • There’s now a speargun Technique hidden in the most insidious place imaginable. Thanks for nudging me on this one, Mag.

And some more suggestions:

  • The Charnel House (first time) should respond a little more cleanly to leaving and reentering the premises. Thanks, Llamaman!
  • Errors when sending messages now returns your subject and text. Thanks for the suggestion, TeKRunneR and Wyrd.
  • You can now see your day and energy count for your current reset on your character sheet until you choose your survivor. Good thought, Xerf!
  • Aqua Regia now works on the Slags Lab doors. Good call, Llamaman.

And fixed some bugs:

  • Corrected an error where you weren’t always flagged as knowing about Yggdrasil. Good catch, Llamaman. Added a bit more conversation since I was thinking about it, too.
  • Fixed a script running twice on the gang boss fight. Thanks TeKRunneR!
  • Corrected some errors with the mushroom folk in the sewers. Thanks Factitious.!
  • Sorted out a long-standing bug with the scanners. Good catch, Xerf!
  • Special underwater fights now properly stay underwater. Thanks for the bug report, Thunderbird!

We also have some typo fixes thanks to Al, Mag, GoldS, Wyrd, and Argeth! Wooooooo!

And, I’m spent.

Unearthly Upgrades

Made a couple changes to unearthly items (no worries, they’re all good) and some bug fixes.

  • You can now run your fingers through your luxurious Feathered Cloak when equipped. Good suggestion, Mag!
  • The Cheater’s Line and Challenge Hook were buffed. Merry Christmas!
  • Corrected a bug preventing Dynamite from blowing up the wall into the Underground Asylum. Thanks, Plus4
  • Fixed the anticipated ton of bugs resulting from the combat update last weekend. Thanks to Wyrd, Mag, Argeth, and DerMagus!
  • Becoming a prospective Third Eye member should now show up in your Completed Quests. Good eyes, Glass!
  • Also corrected some typos, thanks to Llamaman, xKiv, and Mag.

Also, I’m considering changing how choose your powder to pour into the puzzle box. It’d go from a traditional choice into a dropdown. They’d lose their individual responses, but it’d be way easier for me to add more in the future. If that’d bother anyone, please speak up.

Catching Up

For those of you who don’t check the forums, I’m been out with the mother of all cold/flu badness for the last week or so. I should be caught up on all the bug reports and messages now. If there’s anything I missed, feel free to re-hassle me.

  • Losing processor in net combat shouldn’t confuse Javascript quite as much. Thanks for the testing, JTN2002!
  • Contacts should now be highlighted more consistently in the top pane. Thanks for the bug report, Plus4.
  • Defending Techniques special abilities should be triggering consistently. Good catch, TeKRunneR.
  • Corrected some items from the Survivors’ Quest that were dropping early. Thanks Mag and Jenkins!
  • Little Eddie’s training tickets shouldn’t sap energy when you’re beaten up anymore. Thanks for the bug report, Plus4.
  • Some chitinous items have new art. Thanks for the suggestion, Vholes, although it’s been a while coming.
  • And a heaping helping of typo fixes to top it off from Steaming, Vholes Piper, Stark, Polygon, Al, Dennis, Valera, Wyrd, and Mag.

Festive Updates

We have a festive batch of interface updates and bug fixes today… most of which seem to involve gang warfare… hmmm…

  • In possibly the most festive update, there is now a gift link in player’s profiles. Top notch suggestionf rom TekRunner.
  • Chat now includes a /channel command that will tell you about which channels you’re in and which you could be in. Good suggestion, Wyrd.
  • Also chat related, the long-standing request for doublepost prevention was taken care of. Thanks to Llamaman and The Kitchen Sink for getting this on the list a ways back.
  • In “shopping” encounters with old coins, your number of old coins in inventory should appear before the choices. Good suggestion, Steaming.
  • Corrected some database problems causing issues in PvP. Thanks for the bug reports Caradal, xKiv, and Pyren.
  • Changed the Dock’s name in Gang Warfare. If that sets anything on fire, be sure to tell me. Thanks for pointing that out, Vholes.
  • In another old request off the list, gang message and description changes are now displayed in the gang log in their own section. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for that one.
  • Also corrected some very festive typos with help from Plus4, Mag, Vholes Piper, and Factitious.

Ho ho ho

Nice handful of updates and new features heading into the holidays.

  • New characters now start with an extra day’s Energy, Body, and Hunger to help them start off on the right foot. Good suggestion, Sir Cheddar.
  • You can now set yourself to other positions along with being leader in a gang, allowing you to receive the recently added recruitment notices among other things. Thanks Mag!
  • Added some missing quest log text thanks to Plus4 and Wyrd.
  • Fixed an weird interaction between Secrets of the Cube and Dreamslayer. Nice catch, Genesis Rhapsodos!
  • And a special thank you to Mag, Thrillhouse, Dyffryn, Wyrd, Vholes Piper, and Caradal for helping stomp some typos.

And did you see that? It looks like it’s starting to snow.

Interface Updates

We have some interface updates and an interesting bug fix today.

  • Entering chat will now automatically /who for your primary (oldest active) channel. Thanks for the suggestion, Wyrd.
  • Net targets found in searches will now have their names appear as links, saving the need to search through the list for a new site. Good suggestion Harrakan.
  • All clickable or hoverable text in the game should now give a distinct cursor to separate it from all that boring old readable text. Thanks to Wyrd and Al for this one.
  • Resolved an interesting bug where skill bonuses where being double (or, you know, octuple) counted. Thanks to DerMagus and Amasius for reporting it!
  • We’ve also got a parcel of typo fixes from Argeth, Wyrd, Caradal, Mag, and Glass. Thanks!

Thanksgiving Updates

Dropped in a few minor updates over Thanksgiving.

  • There are now descriptions of the stats, available by clicking on their names in the left pane. Good suggestion, Steaming.
  • There are descriptions in the quest log for the connections between steps in the main quest, in case you need a little nudge. I forgot to list this one a few updates ago. Thanks, Plus4!
  • Killing the poet now properly removes the quest for his friend out of the quest log. Thanks again, Steaming!
  • And we have an impressive crop of typo fixes including help from Mag, Borkman, Wyrd, Pyren, Cryptodynamic, Sir Cheddar, and Vholes Piper.

Updates

I have some updates to report, but also a bit of forewarning:

There is some scheduled downtime on the server from 5-11pm server time on Friday. That translates into 11am to 5pm Central Time. Our hosts are moving some servers around in the data center, which potentially might take less time, but shouldn’t be more than six hours without catastrophe.

  • Added a “Last Hacked” in the left hand pane when appropriate. Thanks for the suggestion, Al.
  • Your current effects are now updated when you receive Fae Eyes or Ocean Eyes. Good catch, Soulmech.
  • New contacts now result in the Contacts link up top being highlighted. Good suggestion, Al and Juntao.
  • Corrected some errors with saving account preferences. Thanks, Morwen!
  • Also fixed up a slew of typos from Nyther, Man Mobile, Wyrd, Caradal, and Mag. Thanks!

A few updates to record during and after the Halloween madness.

  • Gang logs will now “stack” identical messages if they follow immediately after each other. Good suggestion, Mr. Green.
  • There’s now more feedback after taking care of the Fang’s boss that there’s a bit of work left to do. Thanks, Al!
  • Hitting enter in Firefox/Safari when changing the preferences for pane layout won’t change your avatar anymore. Good catch, Mr. Green!
  • Leaving a channel in chat won’t change which channel you’re speaking into (unless you left that one). Thanks Wyrd!
  • Areas displayed in profiles are now more precise. If anyone can remind me why I didn’t do this before, though, I might change it back :) Otherwise, thanks Al!
  • Tearing silly amounts of items now gives appropriate errors. Thanks, Mr. Green.
  • Also corrected a whole slew of typos thanks to Borkman, PaidPiedPiperPal, Argeth, Pyren, Mag, Artie Effham, and Edwahd

Week’s Updates

Lots of updates this week. I’ve been puttering around fixing stuff and haven’t gone back to actually post the list, so I apologize if I missed anything.

  • Made some sneaky improvements to the riot quest. Good suggestions, Llamaman and Plus4.
  • Lo should now respond to Dr. Amundsen’s death properly. Good catch, Soulmech.
  • Hitting Enter will search the Mall properly now in Internet Explorer. Thanks for the bug report, Polygon.
  • The Ghost Ship should now show up in Completed Quests. Good call, Llamaman.
  • Fixed some weirdness with Mikhail acting as questgiver if you let Lo die. Good catches, Happy Yeti and Factitious.
  • Targeting a hacking defense twice won’t make the targeting arrow go away anymore. Thanks Wyrd!
  • Entering hacking from an encounter will now work properly if you only have 1 energy left. Good eyes, Happy Yeti.
  • Corrected an issue with Time Bomb not entirely destroying defenses. Thanks JTN2002!
  • I broke Kingly Favor and Ghoultouched with code for the new donation item. Thanks to xKiv, Bonbon, and Borkman for helping me track these down.
  • Also corrected a whole load of typos thanks to Mag, plus4, Wyrd, PaidPiedPiperPal, Blarghgh, Jick, and Thrillhouse.
