Been working on the Survivors’ Quest and this month’s donation item, but have slipped in a few fixes.

  • Fixed a bug with that was giving Red Alert on random hacking sites. Thanks to Mag, Argeth, and Llamaman for helping me squash this one.

  • Petrol Splash should now be working as intended. I promise :) Thanks to Pyren for and everyone else who’s helped with this one.
  • Added some new tidbits of information to the MBR Lab. Good idea, Argeth!
  • Also fixed up some typos from Mag, Man Mobile, dfmchfhf, Artie Effham,PaidPiedPiperPal, Pyren, and Fr00d! Thanks, everybody :)

Avatars and Others

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

A pair of unrelated Avatar changes:

  • You can now change Avatar in the account preferences screen, whether or not you are in Gang Warfare.
  • There are two new avatars available.

And some bug fixes:

  • Crashing will now properly stop hackers and defenses from acting. Thanks Starwed!
  • Piercing is now described (in mouseover) where it shows up. Good suggestion, Wyrd.
  • Pressing Enter in the outfit text box should now save the outfit instead of changing to something random. Thanks to Valera, our dedicated “making sure Enter works in every text box” checker :)
  • For the trifecta of “strange things found in misdirected shipments,” cans are not sugar. Thanks Llamaman!
  • Using “Clear” in net combat shouldn’t result in an incorrect memory display anymore. Good catch Starwed.
  • Yellowed Maps no longer pretend to be multiusable. Good catch, Cryptodynamic.

And, of course, we have a bunch of typo fixes thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal, Rykar, Argeth, Slyspawn, and Valliant. Thanks everyone :)

Cheers!

Post GenCon Wrap-Up

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

So, between my long weekend and the beginning of this week I fixed a ton of bugs and typos. I apologize in advance if I miss something in the list, but it’s the most thorough accounting I have.

  • Fixed a bunch of early bugs within hacking. Thank you Rykar, Thrillhouse, Zelandoni, Nyther, Jick, Man Mobile, Blarghgh, and NX_Phoenix.
  • Folks shouldn’t be getting blank spaces in hacking tools anymore. Thanks to Mag and Man Mobile for reporting this one.
  • The special decompilers should work. Thank you RazielSonOfKain.
  • You can no longer get stuck on the second floor of the Slags tower. Thanks for the bug report, Llamaman.
  • Switching for a lower processor computer shouldn’t confuse the installation requirements screen anymore. Good catch, Harrakan!
  • The A student no longer decides he needs more Eclipse every time you talk about art. Thanks llamaman!
  • Made another stab at fixing Petrol Splash. Thanks Valera and JTN2002 for the testing!
  • Added some new dialogue options for Lo. Good call Serenity.
  • Dual Armored Vest is now function, thanks to RazielSonOfKain.
  • Fixed the grammar for equipping and unequipping items that start with ‘the.’ Thanks Shademaster00 and Rykar.
  • Added Data and Programs to the mall. Thanks Rykar!
  • Thanks to Cryptodynamic for doublechecking I’m not giving you those trashy drone hounds when you’re supposed to get lean, mean twisted hounds :)
  • Your X-Ray vision, although potent, no longer allows you to see Professor Evans through his door. Thanks Wyrd!
  • As it turns out, vats of acid are not filled with little dolls and dried fish are not made out of tarnished coins. Who knew? Besides Shademaster00 and Cryptodynamic, that is?
  • Also fixed a load of typos courtesy of Artie Effham, Edwahd, Sir Cheddar, Rykar, Thrillhouse, jetalynn, dfmchfhf, Mag, Zelandoni, Man Mobile, Jick, Wyrd, Borkman, and RazielSonOfKain. Thanks everyone!

Quick Updates

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

There’ve been a couple updates recently, just want to post them so we be all up to date.

  • Completely revamped the luxury foods smuggling. You get more foods as your smugglers build up connections with the upper crust. New foods have also been added and existing foods have had their Energy decreased.
  • Corrected a major mall bug where old orders weren’t copied over properly when you reclaimed your items with reset. Big thank you to PaidPiedPiperPal for being the guinea pig on this one!
  • Skill levels on other people’s skills now show their level, not yours. Thanks Mag and others for harassing me until I implemented this :)
  • Joining chat while you’re in a gang now defaults to being in both Open and Gang, rather than just Gang. Thanks Llamaman, RazielSonOfKain, and Mag for brining this one up.
  • The quest log entry for helping out Angela should now appear after you help her out. Thanks for the bug report, Zelandoni!
  • We also have some typo fixes from Thrillhouse, Arcturas, PaidPiedPiperPal, and Rykar.

Cheers!

Raft of Changes

Monday, July 13th, 2009
  • There is now more dialogue in the Slags quest to represent quite reasonable hesitations. Thanks for the suggestion, Wyrd!
  • The Squatter’s Son quest will now give more feedback in the completed section of the quest log. Good suggestion, RazielSonOfKain.
  • Fixed another interesting wrinkle in Petrol Splash. It should stun consistently against more complex Techniques now. Thanks for the quality bug report, Harrakan.
  • Fixed a bug with the pitted thermos being replaced by a nonexistant item in drops. Good find, Llamaman.
  • Removed the vestigal credits field from the replying mail form. Thanks, Harrakan.
  • Corrected an issue with gang warfare messages not appearing after yesterday’s chat changes. Thanks for the bug report, Dudeathome.
  • Also fixed up some typos from Borkman, Mag, and Man Mobile. Thanks!

Cheers!

Combat Updates

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

The big update today is a revamp of how enemies are treated, both NPC enemies and other players in gang warfare. Basically, the game now keeps track of various special traits about each enemy, such as whether they’re a drone and whether they’re wearing a gas mask.

This nerfs some Techniques and buffs others, but is mostly there so things make more sense. No longer will Helicopter Drones have coughing fits!

This was a long standing request, so lots of folks have asked for it. Give yourselves a pat on the back :)

Other Changes:

  • Internet Explorer users should be able to search in the Mall properly now across the board. Thanks to Happy Yeti for reporting this!
  • You can now talk to your old friend Mikhail if you do to the Deli without reading his note, if you so desire. Good sugestion, Argeth.
  • You can now talk to Dr. Amundsen about encryption even after you’ve freed Hel, although the text here will change with the Survivor’s quest. Good catch, Happy Yeti.
  • Fixed a weird crafting error at zero Energy. Thanks, Mag.
  • Also thanks to LlamaMan, Caradal, and Man Mobile for some typo catching :)

Cheers!

Gang Warfare Change

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Edit: This change has been reversed and is under further consideration.

To help split things up a bit (and also because it kind of makes sense), each player can now only defend one area in Gang Warfare. If you try to start defending another area, it’ll give you a friendly message and not cost any Energy unless you got a benefit.

You can stop defending areas in the Gang Warfare screen. It’s right under the option to Leave PvP, if applicable.

If none of that made sense, here’s a rundown of the basic mechanic:
When there’s no one left to oppose you in gang warfare, you start patrolling the area and get special messages that say you’re consolidating control. This is setting up a defense for the area to prevent other people from taking it over and, once you achieve control, gives you a variety of other benefits.

Previously, if you could knock out enough competition, one person could take control of and defend all four Gang Warfare zones. Now each person can only defend one.

Note this doesn’t prevent four people from taking over the zones, each defending one, and moving around to get the benefits from all four. It just requires a bit more ‘Gang’ in the Gang Warfare.

Hopefully, this is a positive change. If not, it’ll be easy enough to roll back. Thanks to llaman for the original suggestion.

Cheers!

Post Update Cleanup

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

As you’d imagine, we’ve got a good batch of fixes from the Gang Warfare update. There were actually fewer than I was expecting, which is nice.

Here’s the list:

  • Beancounters should now be labeled consistently across screens rather than being “Stash” in some places and “Beancounters” others. Thanks, Mag, for pointing this one out.
  • Your currently selected Avatar is now displayed first (with explanation). Special order for PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Old NPC messages (from contacts) are now cleared when you Beta Reset. Thanks for the suggestion, LlamaMan.
  • Brutality was still irritatingly common. That should be fixed now. If it went to far in the opposite directly, we’ll tweak more. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for the note.
  • The smuggling section in the ‘Gang Stash’ tab now displays the amount you have spent on smugglers, regardless of whether you have any profits to give them. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Adding profits to your smuggler doesn’t wait for you to reload the page to correctly display profits. Good catch, The Kitchen Sink.
  • Fixed a bug right at release where installing a smuggler required you have a smuggler. <_< >_> Thanks, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Also had a heaping helping of typos reported by Argeth, Man Mobile, PaidPiedPiperPal, and The Kitchen Sink.

Thanks everybody!

Cheers!

Quick Updates

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Slipped in a couple of updates while working on the PvP upgrades.

  • Using ‘extra’ rotting journals will now provide some effects.
  • Clearing out a full Chain will no longer lock out adding new chain in. Thanks for the bug report, The Kitchen Sink.
  • Multiple scripts can now run at the end of a combat. Notably, encounters with Spectral Sailors and Twisted Hounds will give the appropriate rewards. Thanks, Argeth!
  • Added links to the Forums from the login and info pages. Thanks for the suggest, Llamaman!
  • The warehouse inventory will now give prototype directions if you’ve finished Larry’s quest. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • First Aid Kits now have a multi-use option. Thanks again to Argeth.
  • And typos from DanBob, Llamaman, Prestige, Jick, and Magnifico.

Cheers!

Update Spree!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

First off, hello to everyone from Kingdom of Loathing! Nice to see all the new faces. If you run into any bugs, even seemingly trivial stuff, please send me a message or bug report.

I believe I’m caught up on all the messages and bug reports for now, so if I missed anything, feel free to resend it. I am actually still in the process of moving, but I’m supposed to be settled with internet access by Friday.

Here is a quick rundown of the bug reports that we’ve caught up with:

  • Thanks to Man Mobile and Squarebob Fancy Pants for reporting problems with registering accounts containing a space. That should now work properly.
  • Paid Pied Piper Pal managed to find (but not fall victim too) a bug that’d kill off Lo for no good reason. He’s also helped test out a lot of the weirdness with a dying man in the Slags.
  • Everyone’s favorite Third Eye Lieutenant should respond to questions about the Lost Son in more situations. Thanks to Argeth for this one.
  • Thanks to Jick for pointing out some problems in the quest log when selling the Squatter King’s crate of medicine.
  • Expanded the explination of what’s going on when you open a crate of Eclipse. Thanks to Audesapere for pointing out the vagueness.
  • Finally fixed the border around the map images (particularly between the two on the Docks) in Firefox. Thanks to Nytmare for the nudge on this one.
  • Also cleared up a nice batch of typos from Argeth, Rikitikitavi, A Naked Jew, and Llamaman.

Cheers!
